5 Great Tips to Know Before You Visit Silverwood Theme Park

Location & Ticket Information

Amusement parks have become a summer tradition for our family. Back in June when we were making our summer bucket list our kids made very sure that we add “roller coasters” to that list.

Since we were going to be visiting beautiful Montana for a week we decided to visit Silverwood Theme Park in Athol, ID. It is the largest amusement park in the PNW and is located in beautiful northern Idaho, nestled right along highway 95 just a minute south of Athol. There is tons of parking ($5 daily) across the highway from the park and a walkway underneath the highway to get to the park. The staff were all so amazing and friendly and this was hands down our favorite amusement park we’ve ever visited!

You can buy your tickets at the park but usually you can save $5 each day if you buy your tickets online, so if you’re vising 2 days that’s a saving of $10/ day. Plus, you can avoid the lines and have your tickets printed at home or sent to you phone and all you have to do is show them at the gate.

Food

It’s always good to be prepared when you’re spending an entire day at a certain place (amusement park, zoo, country fair, etc.). I like to decide ahead of time whether we’re taking a lunch or eating at the park.

You’re allowed to bring a soft sided 10×10 cooler (no hard sided coolers!) into the park and your own food and drinks. Both days we brought our own sandwiches, veggies, fruit and snacks and it was perfect because we all ate whenever we wanted to and didn’t have to spend any time in line-ups waiting for food.

However, if you’d rather choose to eat at the park, there’s some amazing dining like Lindy’s Restaurant, Castelli’s Pizzeria or Main Street Theater. Plus, there’s all the usual favorites like caramel apple, fudge, cotton candy, kettle corn and more!

Rides & Attractions

There is such a great variety of rides for kids and adults of all ages. They’re categorized as low, medium and high intensity. We rode some in each category and every single one was fun. If you love roller coasters, there’s 4 crazy good ones in Roller Coaster Alley to choose from, plus one children’s one (and yes, we even rode that one!)

Panic Plunge was our son’s favorite ride. Not only does it give you a beautiful view of the park as you ride 140 feet to the top, but then your heart drops to your toes as it begins to plunge 47mph a millisecond after you reach the top! The lineup was never really long which is always a plus! My husband loved it too and wishes he would’ve ridden it a couple more times!

The Spincycle ride is also located in roller coaster alley and hats off to anyone who rides this one! It looked crazy exciting as it swings back and forth like a pendulum and then makes a 360 degree turn 104 feet up in the air and you’re hanging upside down. Maybe next time!?

Another favorite was Thunder Canyon and try as you might, there’s a 100% chance that you’ll get wet on this ride.

We also watched the Nick Norton magic show and it was so good. I like that it was totally family friendly and our son is into magic right now so it was right up his alley! You really won’t believe your eyes and be sure to check the show times so you won’t miss it!

Boulder Beach

As much as we loved all the rides, Boulder Beach was an unanimous favorite for our family.

We spent an entire day at Boulder Beach and if it’s a hot day or if your family loves spending time in the water, it’s so easy spending the whole day there. We arrived as soon as the park opened which definitely recommend. We found a spot on the grass, put our blanket down and went to ride Riptide Racer. For the first couple hours there was hardly a lineup and my husband and kids went down countless times. There’s a score clock at the end of the ride and it’s fun to see who’s the fastest out of the 6 people who slide down at at time.

Elkhorn Creek is the perfect spot for something a little more relaxing. It does get busier as the day goes on but usually you can stand at the entrance and wait for people to come out and you can get their tube. I loved it and could’ve floated there all afternoon.

Another area you’re sure to get drenched in is Polliwog Park. Another perfect area for all ages of the family as it has a very shallow wading area but then the actual play area has lots of slides, hoses, and other water-shooting things!
