Do you have a special dish you make on Christmas morning? My husband always makes cinnamon buns but this year we’ll be adding a few new recipes to the menu!
When Jo-Anna from A Pretty Life organized this Christmas Morning Breakfast Ideas I knew I had to share one of our favorites. French Toast is hands down my favorite breakfast food ever. And eggs. And cereal. And my baked oatmeal.
Okay, I admit, I love any and all breakfast foods. And after discovering this Caramel French Toast that literally takes 10 minutes to make the night before, I’ve been drawn to all French Toast recipes.
So when I saw this Cranberry Pear French Toast I knew I had to try it. My husband and daughter eat a huge bag of pears a week so I knew this would be a big hit. The sweet flavors of pear and the tart bursts of cranberries are the perfect combination with bread that’s perfectly seasoned with spices. Add a vanilla sauce and perfection!
- 1 loaf bread, cut into cubes
- 1 cup fresh cranberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup diced pears
- 2 cups milk
- 4 large eggs
- ΒΌ cup honey
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Β½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ΒΌ tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 tbsp. flour
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp. butter, melted
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1 tbsp. vanilla
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Place the bread cubes in a 9X13" baking dish.
- Toss in the cranberries and diced pears.
- Whisk the milk, eggs, honey, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg together in a mixing bowl.
- Pour the mixture into the baking dish covering the fruit and bread.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Cover with foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes.
- Whisk sauce ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat, until mixture is smooth.
- Continue to stir until sauce thickens, about 8 minutes.
- Serve warm with French toast.
