$100 Room Challenge: Finishing the Laundry Room

Follow along this month as I show you how we’re putting the finishing touches on our laundry room with the $100 Room Challenge!

I’ve gone back and forth about twenty times on whether or not I should publish this post.

I’ve told myself a hundred times that I don’t have time to do this in January. My husband doesn’t have time to build shelves. $100 isn’t enough.

And today I told myself, I will make time, my husband always comes through for me on any project or deadline and if there’s anyone who can make a dollar stretch, it’s me. I’m not bragging when I say this but I can make a dollar go an awful long way. And this challenge gives me one hundred of them so I decided to jump on board. Erin, our host from Lemons, Lavender and Laundry will be so proud I finally joined…. even though I’m a week late!

Let me back track a bit…. You might be wondering what the $100 Room Challenge is and if you’ve never heard about it you can read all about how it started here. Basically you can only spend $100 and you have one month to complete a space in your home.

Our laundry room has been STARING at me and begging to complete it and honestly, there’s no better time to put the finishing touches on it than in January. You see, this room got completed a few years back when we had water damage that completely destroyed it. It was down to bare studs in here.

Let me give you a little tour of our laundry room/mudroom… Messy, right? But there’s also no cupboards or shelves to hold all the laundry things, right?! There used to be some big cupboards overtop of the washer and dryer but they were all ruined and we’ve never replaced them. I haven’t fully decided on cupboards (to hide everything) or shelves (so I can buy all the baskets!) but if I do decide to go with cupboards I might have to “cheat” a little bit. Since we had cupboards there before and they were ruined in our water damage, I’ll exclude the cost of replacing them.

I’ve also never put up any décor any here and that’ll be on my to do list for this challenge!This is what it looks like right now without any storage and …

Now let’s take a peek at something a little prettier…

 

One of my absolute favorite parts of this room are these beautiful lockers my husband built. They are hands down one of this best builds ever. Our kids and I each have a space to hang our coats, backpacks, purses and then the drawers hold boots and shoes. The baskets above them hold all kinds of things and keep stuff out of sight.

Just so you can better picture the room, these lockers are to the left as soon as you come into our laundry room (it’s a long and narrow-ish room). Right after that wall you see beside the lockers are the washer and dryer. It’s so hard to get a good picture of it all!

Since I love making lists here’s my to do one for this challenge:

  • Build and install shelves or cabinets above washer and dryer.
  • Add shiplap (if budget allows). I’m determined not to go over a single penny. 🙂
  • Add décor…. including making a DIY farmhouse sign for this room.

This doesn’t look too bad but I also realize I’m a week behind so the pressure’s on friends, but I think we can do it!!! If you have any suggestions let me know please! I’m all ears!!!

    Those are all great ideas. I love watching everyone’s process and am looking forward to seeing what you do with this laundry room. I may have to tackle mine next.

      Thanks so much, Sherry! This was the second time he built them (as the first ones were ruined in our water damage we had) and I think they look even better the second time around. We joke that “the third time’s the charm” but hope he doesn’t have to build them again! lol! So happy you came by! xo

    It’s so exciting to see you joining in Kendra! Those lockers look amazing! Kudos to your husband for building those. We did shiplap in my laundry room last year for the $100 room challenge. We got cheaper plywood and ripped it down into slats. We also did just an accent wall so I believe I only had to purchase 1 plywood sheet! It worked out well 🙂 Good luck!
