Happy December friends and welcome to my second annual Christmas Festival Blog Hop!
I am so excited to have 24 of my blogging friends join me this week as we open our homes and share lots of seasonal decor and recipes! If you’re new here, each day will have a different theme with 5 bloggers sharing.
- Monday (which is today!) is DIYs
- Tuesday is front porches
- Wednesday will be recipes
- Thursday is decorating mantels
- and Friday will be all about tablescapes
If you are stopping by from Kristi over at Chatfield Court, welcome! Isn’t her magnolia wreath beautiful?
This past spring I shared how I made a tiered tray using cake pans that my mom had thrown out. (I knew when I pulled them out of the garbage that they’d come in handy one day ;)!
I had painted it all white back in the springtime but I wanted to give it a little more character so I’ll show you today how to make your own! (For the actual tray tutorial, you can check out this post).
Since my tray had a white coat already all I needed was some Antiquing Wax from Country Chic Paint to give it a worn and distressed look. The antiquing wax is very easy and forgiving to use and is really a quick way to give furniture that worn look.
Using an old rag, I dipped the corner into the wax and then smeared it across the tray. Make sure you go the same direction each time, because the lines do show. (That’s what gives it that worn look). Also, a little wax goes a long way so depending on how dark you want your piece to appear, begin with only a bit of wax. I left the tray to dry overnight and then by morning it was ready to set some things on it. The wax dries really nicely and isn’t sticky at all!
It is so fun to decorate and although I originally had my eye on a different try, I wasn’t ready to spend $100 and I think this little guy turned out just right! So next time you head to the thrift store, be sure to keep your eye open for some old metal pans, friends! 🙂
And before you head off today, be sure to check over to my friends at 2 Bees In A Pod and see how they created a shadow box perfect for Christmas! Its going to be a fun week…. there will be more sharing each day so be sure to come back and see the rest!
